In the 1700's, Deal on the east coast of England southeast of London was a port of entry from continental Europe into England and into its colonies in North America. The white arrow on this map shows the first segment of the journey of the Manheim Emigrants of 1727 from Rotterdam near the mouth of the Rhine River to the colony of William Penn named "Pennsylvania."
