Neuchatel, KS was formed about 1857 by a small group of immigrants from the French-speaking part of Switzerland after they spent a few years in Indiana. (1-3) The little town still shows an 1895 map of Nemaha Co. (4) The location shown on the map above is for the Neuchatel City Cemetery. (5)

Family Connection The Ulysse Huguenin family emigrated in 1878 from the Neuchâtel area of Switzerland to near Peabody, KS in Marion Co. A French-speaking Swiss community in Neuchatel, KS may explain, in part, why Ulysse chose to emigrate to Kansas. As far as I know, the Huguenins are not related to either the Junod or the Perrussel families of Neuchatel, KS.
